How Capco delivered an Instant Payment multi-country program for digital channels for a major pan-European bank


Following the introduction of the new EU regulation on Instant Payments, Capco Italy helped one of Europe's largest systemic banks meet the regulatory deadline by introducing innovative solutions in the management of payments through digital channels.


WHY NOW?

On 9 October 2025, the new rules (EU Regulation 2024/886) on Instant Payments came into force throughout the European Union, making it mandatory for banks and payment institutions to allow customers to send and receive money in seconds, at any time/on any day of the year, and guaranteeing a new IBAN verification system.

 

HOW WE DID IT:

Capco worked alongside the bank for 12 months to build a competitive digital solution for payments, managing the complexity of implementing regulatory requirements across three countries and ten digital channels in total.

This included end-to-end consulting and system integration services, such as delivery management, solution design, architecture, enterprise platform development, testing, go-live readiness, post go-live support and scaling management.

The biggest challenges for the team were to secure the delivery plan while all the main systems of the bank (payment engines, antifraud solutions) were disrupting change and to maintain coordination between multiple bank structures (payments, antifraud, FX markets, IT network and infrastructure).


WHAT WE DELIVERED:

Capco transformed the initial requirements into a digital payment solution for mobile apps and internet banking able to manage over 200 million payments per year, by introducing new capabilities for customers:

  • Ensure instant payments for Single SEPA transactions, standing orders and tax payments
  • Verify payee information, to prevent error in fund transfer and mitigate fraud risk
  • Introduce the possibility to control transaction limit for instant payments
  • Introduce the possibility to schedule instant payments at a future date.
