STEVENS AND CAPCO ANNOUNCE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS STUDYING FINTECH

Students studying financial sciences and technologies at Stevens earn Capco scholarships as part of Stevens’ three-year partnership with the global management and technology consultancy

Hoboken, N.J – Sept. 29, 2020 — Stevens Institute of Technology, a leading science- and technology- oriented university based in the heart of the New York financial region, today announced the winners of two prestigious undergraduate scholarships sponsored by Capco. Capco, a global management and technology consultancy, is a partner in Stevens’ Hanlon Financial Systems Center, which houses some of the most sophisticated finance and data visualization technology in the world.

Vince Falvo ’21 and Lauren Carlucci ’23, both students at the School of Business, will each receive a $7,500 scholarship as part of a larger, three-year partnership between Stevens and Capco to promote education that supports the fast-changing technological requirements of the financial services industry. In part, the scholarships aim to help employers and promising students early in their careers to plan and develop an optimal fit for graduates entering the financial industry.

Falvo will graduate with a degree in quantitative finance, which emphasizes business, math, finance and computer science, and equips students to manage financial assets and risk for firms on Wall Street and beyond. Falvo, who is the third brother to attend Stevens, has already accepted an offer at Prudential Financial when he graduates in spring 2021.

“I’m grateful and honored to receive this scholarship, and very thankful to Capco for their support and to Stevens for creating that relationship and this opportunity,” Falvo said.

Carlucci, meanwhile, is starting her sophomore year and is pursuing a finance degree. She is grateful that the financial support will allow her to pursue a broader role in her extracurricular pursuits, including Stevens Women in Business, where she already holds a leadership position.

“The Capco scholarship will significantly lighten the financial burden I was facing going into the upcoming academic year, and will give me the opportunity to get more involved on campus with activities I am passionate about,” she said. “I’m very grateful to Capco for this scholarship, which will allow me to maximize my college experience.”

Capco’s US Managing Partner, Michael Pugliese, comments, “It is important to Capco that we are giving back and supporting students that are dedicated to making the financial services market more robust. Steven’s Hanlon Financial Systems Center is helping develop the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of our financial industry. We have been truly impressed by both Vince and Lauren and their commitment to the program.”

George Calhoun, founding director of the quantitative finance program at Stevens and executive director of the Hanlon Financial Systems Center, spoke highly of both students and praised Capco for its generosity in supporting education.

“It’s wonderful to reward students like Vince and Lauren for their academic excellence and their intellectual curiosity,” Calhoun said. “I have the highest expectations for both of them, and I’m sure this scholarship will play an important role in their success.”
