Twelve months. Two consecutive triumphs. One Capco partnership.

In 2025, the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) Netball team claimed first place in the Singapore Netball End-of-Year League Women's Open (Group A) and took the winners podium at the SGMMNA Carnival – two particular highlights in a year of strong performances across the board. On paper, these are sporting achievements, with goals scored and titles won, but much more has gone into this achievement behind the scenes – a true investment into the women in the team.

When we look at who gets the court and especially the coaching in sport, it has all too often not been women. Capco’s partnership with SCC seeks to remedy that imbalance. What is too often missed is the extraordinary power sport holds to develop, empower and transform women, on and off the court, in ways few other environments can.

A Partnership to Build Capability

Now in its second year, Capco’s partnership with SCC Netball is no philanthropic sidebar, but rather speaks to our deep conviction for investing in women to drive excellence that must be championed. The partnership covers junior pathways, coaching accreditation, mentorship, and year-round competition for players at every level.

Genevieve Guiney, Convenor of SCC Netball, reflects on what the support has made possible: "Capco's support has allowed us to add real value in ways we simply couldn't have done alone — from coaching investment that has driven on-court success, to junior development and mentorship, supporting some of our high performing juniors through umpiring accreditation, and community and charity work. The impact is felt not just on court, but in the lives of these women beyond it. We are so very grateful to Capco.”

"In particular, this sponsorship has allowed us to bring in an extra junior development coach focused on our 12 to 20-year-old girls,” Genevieve adds. “This targets their individual development needs, preparing them for the senior squad by building skills, confidence on court, and vital mentorship – a key area where our Capco mentors system also plays a significant role."

The mentorship element is central to the partnership. This year welcomed the official launch of the CAPCO x SCC Netball Mentor Program – connecting junior players with CAPCO female leaders, moving beyond funding to provide valuable face time and create meaningful impact. The feedback from mentees has been overwhelmingly positive: from career guidance and confidence to the invaluable experience of learning from women who have reached the top of their field. It is mentorship that genuinely changes trajectories, on and off the court.

Helping young women to learn not only how to pivot and pass, but how to lead, how to communicate under pressure and to trust their own decisions in environments where historically women were too often told to wait their turn.

‘Power in Participation’

This year for International Women’s Day, Capco is building on the core IWD campaign theme of ‘Give to Gain’ with an additional call to action – ‘Power in Participation.’ This speaks to something simple but essential: by investing in women's participation, everyone wins. The SCC players gain opportunity. The women’s game gains depth and reach. The community gains role models and future leaders.

And giving back to the community is key”, as Genevieve highlights. "We run regular off-court charity initiatives with different Singapore-based charities, including Food From The Heart, MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore) and the Chinatown Active Ageing Centre, broadening the girls' understanding of social issues," she says. What makes Capco's involvement particularly special is that it goes beyond support — members of the Capco team have stood side by side with SCC Netball at these events, giving back together as one. "My ultimate hope is that this plants a seed — motivating our junior ladies in particular to pursue volunteer work independently, in Singapore-based causes they are truly passionate about," says Genevieve.

"Our SCC Netball ladies come from so many different backgrounds — those who grew up here, those who have made Singapore home — with ambitions spanning law, charity work, veterinary care, disability services and beyond. Whatever path they take off the court, our goal is to have given them access to meaningful experiences  both on and off court — from community service and umpiring accreditation to leadership through team involvement — skills and achievements they can speak to with confidence and put on their CV. Experiences that we hope will genuinely set them apart and set them up for life," says Genevieve.

As for the junior pathways program, this is just the beginning. The young women currently moving through SCC’s accreditation process will in due course become captains, mentors, and coaches. They will lead teams yet to be established, against opponents who have not yet picked up a ball.

SCC’s success belongs to the players, the coaches, and the club. Capco is privileged through our partnership to help create the conditions to allow talent to flourish. When women are given the court, the coaching, and the opportunity to give their all, they build something that outlasts any single season.

We invite our clients, our partners, and competitors to join us in celebrating present and future triumphs – on and off the court.
