Levelling the Playing Field this IWD: Celebrating SCC Netball’s Winning Year

Twelve months. Two consecutive triumphs. One Capco partnership.

In August 2025, the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) Netball team claimed first place in the Singapore Netball Open Women’s Division and took the winners podium at the Shanna Carnival. On paper, these are sporting achievements, with goals scored and titles won. But much more has gone into this achievement behind the scenes – a true investment into the women in the team.

When we look at who gets the court and especially the coaching in sport, it has all too often not been women. Capco’s partnership with SCC seeks to remedy that imbalance.

A partnership to build capability

Now in its second year, Capco’s partnership with SCC Netball is no philanthropic sidebar, but rather speaks to our deep conviction for investing in women to drive excellence that must be championed. The partnership covers junior pathways, coaching accreditation, mentorship, and year-round competition for players at every level.

Genevieve Guiney from SCC Netball highlights the impact of Capco’s sponsorship: “We can add a lot more value to our program than we would otherwise have been able to. We leverage the partnership to advance not only our netball team but also our charity work, so we’re very grateful to Capco.”

"We have used the sponsorship to bring in an extra junior development coach focused on our 12 to 14-year-old girls,” Genevieve adds. “This targets their individual development needs, preparing them for the senior squad by building skills, confidence on court, and vital mentorship – a key area where our Capco mentors system also plays a significant role."

The mentorship element is central to the partnership – moving beyond funding to provide valuable face time and the sharing of experiences. Women who have built careers in financial services sit alongside women building their own careers in sport, exchanging notes on leadership, resilience – and what it takes to perform when it counts.

Helping young women to learn not only how to pivot and pass, but how to lead, how to communicate under pressure and to trust their own decisions. “My dream is that they do it with us and then they go and continue to do it themselves,” says Genevieve. “Knowing they’ll leave us with experiences that they could really speak to, like community service. It will translate to experiences that set them apart from other candidates for whatever they aim to do next.

‘Power in Participation’

This year for International Women’s Day, Capco is building on the core IWD campaign theme of ‘Give to Gain’ with an additional call to action – ‘Power in Participation.’ This speaks to something simple but essential: by investing in women's participation, everyone wins. The SCC players gain opportunity. The women’s game gains depth and reach. The community gains role models and future leaders.

And giving back to the community is key, as Genevieve highlights. “We run quarterly initiatives with different Singapore-based charities, like Aged Care Center and Food from the Heart, broadening the girls' understanding of social issues,” she says. “Future plans include supporting Alzheimer's charities or elderly engagement. My ultimate hope is that this involvement plants a seed, motivating them to pursue volunteer work independently in the future.”

As for the junior pathways program, this is just the beginning. The young women currently moving through SCC’s accreditation process will in due course become captains, mentors, and coaches. They will lead teams yet to be established, against opponents who have not yet picked up a ball.

SCC’s success belongs to the players, the coaches, and the club. Capco is privileged through our partnership to help create the conditions to allow talent to flourish. When women are given the court, the coaching, and the opportunity to give their all, they build something that outlasts any single season.

We invite our clients, our partners, and competitors to join us in celebrating present and future triumphs – on and off the court.
