Capco’s Howard Taylor named as a Commissioner by the Financial Inclusion Commission

LONDON, July 23, 2021 – Capco, the global technology and management consultancy, today welcomed the appointment of Howard Taylor, a Global Regulatory Delivery Lead based in Capco’s London office, as a new Commissioner at the Financial Inclusion Commission.

Financial exclusion remains a significant challenge for 21st century Britain. An independent body of experts from financial services, businesses, the charity sector, academia and parliamentarians from all major political parties, the Commission seeks to establish a financially inclusive UK where financial services are accessible, easy to use and meet people’s needs over their lifetime, and where everyone has the skills and motivation to use them.

Howard is the co-author of UK Finance’s 2018 report ‘Financial Inclusion In A Digital Age’, and an ICAEW Foundation and CABA Inspiration Award winner. Howard’s early life was complicated, adjusting to life in a wheelchair and proving to the education system that he could contribute fully to the conversation.

Howard says: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to draw on my personal and professional experience to support the Commission’s mission to enhance financial inclusion, notably in areas such as customer engagement, digital inclusion via future technologies and inclusive design. Financially excluded or vulnerable individuals have a voice, and it deserves to be heard. I have always believed that it is only by designing products and services that foster inclusion for the largest number of people possible that concrete change can be achieved.

“The new Financial Conduct Authority guidance on vulnerability and consultation on duty of care published recently was an important step in that direction, clarifying the definition of financial vulnerability while focusing on both proactive intervention in the product space and customer service. That intervention into product design transforms the approach to vulnerability from a reactive one around managing consequences to a proactive discussion on delivering inclusive product design. I look forward to bringing similar proactivity to helping the Commission harness innovation and creative thinking to change the lives of those who have until now found themselves financially excluded.”

Mike Ethelston, UK Managing Partner at Capco, said: “I am pleased to congratulate Howard on his new appointment on behalf of everyone at Capco. Through his work, Howard has worked tirelessly to help our clients to successfully reimagine client experiences and journeys for their customers. His expertise and his understanding of the challenges posed by financial exclusion will be of immense value to the Commission as it presses forward with its vital work.”
