My journey into the corporate world began two decades ago as a bright and shiny eyed political science graduate looking to make strides into the world of banking and finance. That journey took me through various roles from operations, client experience, customer service, global project and change management, institutional sales and relationship management, wealth management value propositions, brand marketing and corporate communications. But the best part of each of these roles was the people aspect whether it was working across a complex matrix driven global bank to drive a common goal or leading teams to success.

The one lesson I have taken away from years of working in banks and a commodity exchange is that people are the common denominator – it’s what drives initiative and innovation and distinguishes good from great. I was lucky and privileged to work in various parts of the globe from Asia Pacific to EMEA and understand cultural nuances and different business models in varying regulatory landscapes. This enriched my understanding of the interwoven nature of global businesses and the power of collaboration and joining up a company. No matter what role you play in an organization, we are all dynamic agents of change and business transformation and growth.

A global relocation and one pandemic later, I found myself looking at options to restart my career after a four-and-a-half-year hiatus. The break to me was a semicolon and not a period to my career. It gave me the much-needed time to pause and reflect on my personal and professional life choices and most importantly where my priorities lie (apart from my wanderlust and passion for travel). This, to me, was a perfect opportunity to take what I had in terms of seasoned experience in financial services and combine it with my thirst for new knowledge and experiences.

I started looking at returnships and came across Capco’s Return to Work Program (RTW). The program provides a platform to recruit a wealth of talent who have taken extended career breaks and offers a supported route back to work of training and career development opportunities. This to me was a fabulous way to “Test Drive” the consulting space and get an in-depth understanding of the inner workings of a KaaS (knowledge as a service) industry.

What attracted me to Capco was the fact it specialises in strategy and digital transformation innovation for the banking and financial services industry vs. its competitors who did everything from audit, tax, market research, assurance, and legal advisory services for any industry. The Capco RTW program was in sync with my long-term goals of building my learning curve whilst adding value to multi-faceted projects across the banking and fintech space.

Capco’s DE&I culture built on the rails of Knowledge, Respect, Integrity, Commitment, & Excellence and their #BYAW (Be Yourself at Work) created a three way-value system – where I learn and contribute simultaneously, in an entrepreneurial and inclusive workplace. Over the course of the return ship, I have engaged and interacted with wonderful bright and intelligent minds and learnt a lot more than just navigating the world of consulting!! It has given me access to my own coach, a curated mentoring pool and library of learning resources and of course the opportunity to do more in the wealth and asset management space.

If you are looking to transition back into the corporate world, this may just be your partner of choice.
