Challenge:
Our client’s existing on-premises, enterprise-supported infrastructure provided an analytics platform for wealth and asset management teams to conduct research and analysis, offering centralized data collection, normalization and consumption via an Oracle database. Researchers and portfolio managers accessed this platform, integrating with multiple tools and risk models to develop strategies and evaluate risk/return profiles.
Solution:
Capco was engaged to migrate this analytics platform from on-premises to the cloud, to leverage the scalability and elasticity offered by cloud hosting. Capco helped the client architect a solution using AWS services, which met the client’s security and compliance requirements. Capco led the design, implementation, and migration of the existing platform and all data into AWS while minimizing downtime.
Outcome:
The client’s key focus was the migration of their existing Oracle databases to AWS Relational Database Service (RDS), bringing the advantage of both vertical and horizontal scalability. Migration to AWS RDS has reduced the client’s support requirements by simplifying the management of the database servers and adding more robust backup and restore functionality. The use of RDS has allowed the team to spend more time focusing on enhancements including the simplified upgrade of the Oracle database engine.
The use of AWS Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) instances has enabled the client to scale easily, and the platform now being used by more staff and with broader integration into existing applications. With the capabilities unlocked by migrating to the AWS cloud, the client has increased new functionality deployments, reduced support costs and reduced the time required to run analytical reports.
