As a first-generation American, my Indian and American identities have shaped my outlook, goals, and aspirations. I grew up outside of Boston (go Patriots!) and attended George Washington University to study International Affairs. My passion for helping other people and international economics led to an academic interest in microfinance, and I studied this field throughout college. I wanted to support those in lower-income households by utilizing the power of finance.
By the time my senior year came around, I was dissatisfied with my chosen field. I was drawn to consulting as I wanted to build my professional skill set by exploring a wide range of specializations. During an on-campus recruitment fair, a Capco consultant introduced herself, and I was immediately drawn to her outgoing nature and down-to-earth personality. I applied and interviewed for a position in the Associate Talent Program (ATP), and that same approachability characterized the entire application process. I was thrilled to accept my offer and begin working.
The ATP program kicked off with an intense, jam-packed ten-day program during which I learned so much: everything from Banking 101 to how to improve my public speaking skills. It also kickstarted my networking, and I made friends and connected with mentors throughout the program.
I have now completed the Associate Talent Program and 1.5 years of working for Capco. The company is composed of passionate, supportive people, and I’ve worked on five projects and three accounts. Every day brings new challenges and something different to the table. My coach has been the bedrock for my development at Capco, offering advice on how to navigate challenges. It’s made a huge difference for me.
Capco has provided me, as a woman of color, with a platform to have my unique, diverse voice heard in the workplace. My coach and I come from similar backgrounds, and she has led the way for me to get involved with D&I initiatives at Capco. Together, we are a part of the D&I Advocacy and Governance group.
Each day at Capco is different. It may include client-facing meetings, creating presentations, investigating trends and best practices for any given topics, and performing various types of analysis. A key project in my career involved a community bank that sought guidance on how to organize their data and use it to engage with customers more efficiently. The solution involved the creation of a centralized data warehouse to support the bank's digital strategy and its move towards a new customer relations management (CRM) platform. I had no exposure to data, analytics, or governance in college, so this sphere of work was entirely new for me. It greatly benefitted my personal growth as I was able to zero-in on insights from my accomplished team members, and I performed research about data management topics while getting hands-on experience.
I am a creative at heart, and I enjoy going to concerts, singing, and editing videos for social media. I am very passionate about exploring different cultures and experiences, so I try to travel as often as I can. My love for the great outdoors has also lent itself to these adventures – my most notable trips included backpacking in the Grand Canyon (twice!) and hiking in Patagonia and around Macchu Picchu. My favorite part of life at Capco is the opportunity to get more involved with the community outside usual working hours. I was very involved with the Associate Engagement Committee as an Associate and planned various community-building events for the New York office. These included pub trivia, a virtual pet talent show, and a NY Rangers game. Through these experiences, I have made new friends at Capco as well as picking up key skills in event planning and management.
