Hello! I’m Yong Han, a Principal Consultant based in Singapore. Who I am has definitely evolved throughout the different seasons, but I’m a problem solver at heart (sometimes to a fault, as my wife often tells me!) and have always found myself exceptionally fortunate to be able to indulge in this as part of my career here at Capco.

What may be surprising to most is that I joined Capco with little to no consulting-specific experience (e.g. PowerPoint, stakeholder management, consulting frameworks). I remain humbled by Capco taking a chance on me those many years ago and look back fondly on the trials and successes that make me who I am today.

Over the years, I’ve spoken with many people who reached out for a coffee chat about the firm. In these conversations, I almost always touch on why the people here are the single, biggest factor behind 'Why Capco'. We spend so much of our time with the people we work with - sometimes more so than our close friends and family, which makes it especially important that we spend that time meaningfully and with the right people.

It is rare to find a workplace with a hierarchy that is as flat as it is in Capco, where you are not only genuinely able but also actively encouraged to connect with, collaborate and learn from anyone in the firm, regardless of levels. Add to that the diversity of personality and talent we have in the firm, there is almost always an opportunity to make a new friend or to learn something from someone.

As consultants, we often find ourselves tackling complex problems with steep learning curves, where we are tasked to contribute in areas we may not yet be experts. Where some may be put off by this, I find myself thoroughly engaged with the prospect of expanding my knowledge and polishing my skillset – which would not have been possible without the many opportunities available in Capco.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to contribute across varied client engagements to drive impactful outcomes; uplifting transfer agency reporting capabilities, developing strategic technology roadmaps, optimising key banking processes, bridging data sovereignty gaps, driving delivery certainty for key transformation programmes, etc.

Among the many successes achieved for our clients, one of the most memorable has undoubtedly been the pro-bono work for Room-to-Read, uplifting the Technology Operating Model of the organisation to further their mission in advancing literacy and gender equality through education.

I’m a firm believer in creating safe spaces for people to express themselves freely and professionally, given that everyone brings their own unique perspective and experiences to the table. I’m glad that the culture in Capco genuinely embraces this philosophy, bringing the hashtag #BeyourselfAtwork to life every day in the workplace.

Looking ahead, I’m optimistic of what the future holds: how I can further my growth as a leader, how we can continuously achieve meaningful outcomes for our clients and how I can hopefully continue to inspire others to join me on this journey.
