In a new FinTech Magazine article exploring how NatWest Boxed is combining platform ownership, resilient architecture and AI to deliver flexible embedded finance at scale, Chris Rahnejat discusses how Capco combines financial services expertise with technology advice and delivery to support NatWest Boxed’s embedded finance growth.
Established around 2022, NatWest Boxed, part of NatWest Group, provides the technology and operational capabilities that enable major UK brands, including The AA, Saga and Sainsbury’s, to offer financial products such as instant-access savings, unsecured lending and, in development, point-of-sale lending within customer journeys they already control.
Capco Partner Chris Rahnejat has been working closely with NatWest Boxed since 2017 advising on the M&A activity that preceded the latest project and leading the architecture design for the platform behind it.
Capco’s relationship with NatWest Boxed began during the early development of Mettle, the digital banking proposition that provided the foundations for NatWest’s broader embedded finance ambitions. We helped build the proposition, strengthen NatWest Boxed’s internal capabilities and shape the technology platform that would support the next stage of growth.
Capco’s involvement has evolved each time NatWest Boxed has reached a new stage, says Chris. Having helped build Mettle, supported the development of the platform and then worked on embedded finance, Capco is now supporting the next phase: embedded lending.
“We’ve always planned things together and found new things we can do to make NatWest Boxed more successful – and the Capco team has then focused on whatever that turns out to be,” Chris says. As the article notes, this shared approach has been central to the development of the relationship over eight years. “It is very honest and a true partnership: at the end of the day, NatWest Boxed’s success is our success,” Chris adds.
Looking ahead, the platform is being prepared for AI-enabled banking, with an API-first orchestration solution designed to support agentic AI agents that can interact, orchestrate and execute smart workflows. In the article, Asif Siddiqui, Director of Engineering, Banking as a Service at NatWest Boxed, notes that NatWest Boxed is already investing in agentic AI to increase development velocity and productivity, with Capco continuing to support the programme as a trusted partner.
