How Capco helped a Swiss universal bank build a DLT strategy for global messaging

Capco helped a Swiss universal bank define a three-to-five-year strategy and roadmap for applying distributed ledger technology (DLT) to global messaging, supporting its ambition to expand its role across the payments ecosystem and identify opportunities beyond traditional financial messaging.

WHY NOW?

The bank was looking to expand its presence across the payments ecosystem, including tokenized deposits, stablecoins and cash tokens, while exploring how DLT could support the next generation of financial messaging.

The opportunity extended beyond payments. The bank wanted to understand how DLT-based solutions could support end-to-end integration with distributed ledger infrastructure and how emerging technologies such as DLT, tokenized deposits, Merkle Trees, Oracles and Zero-Knowledge Proofs could reshape traditional financial messaging and payments models.

HOW WE DID IT:

This required a strategy that could balance innovation with the realities of operating within a global bank, including compliance, business alignment and integration with existing infrastructure.

Capco worked with the bank to develop a strategic three-to-five-year roadmap for its Global Messaging unit, combining market research, technology assessment and business strategy.

Our approach included:

  • Conducting extensive research and benchmarking to assess market developments, emerging technologies and potential future scenarios.
  • Developing strategic propositions for modernizing financial messaging.
  • Prioritizing initiatives and creating detailed implementation roadmaps covering a three-to-five-year horizon.
  • Exploring how DLT-based solutions could integrate with existing and emerging financial infrastructure.
  • Assessing technologies including DLT, tokenized deposits, Merkle Trees, Oracles and Zero-Knowledge Proofs to identify opportunities to support new payments and messaging paradigms.
  • Engaging with the bank's global payments DLT teams to align the strategy with compliance requirements and wider business objectives.

WHAT WE DELIVERED:

Capco delivered a future-state strategy and roadmap designed to help the bank position its Global Messaging function for the evolution of financial markets and digital assets.

The work provided:

  • A future-state roadmap. A structured three-to-five-year strategic roadmap positioning the bank to anticipate emerging market and technology trends.
  • A clearer view of DLT capabilities. An assessment of how DLT and related technologies could enhance financial messaging systems.
  • A path towards broader tokenization opportunities. Identification of opportunities to build on the bank's existing strengths and expand into areas including asset tokenization and emerging payments models.
  • Strategic priorities for growth. Seven strategic opportunities were identified and prioritized, providing a clearer set of initiatives to support innovative services and differentiate the bank over the longer term.

By connecting emerging technologies with practical business priorities, Capco helped the bank move beyond technology exploration towards a defined strategy for how DLT could support the future of global financial messaging and payments.
