US CRYPTOASSET REGULATION : CONSUMER PROTECTIONS AND CURSORY GUIDANCE

2018 saw a rapid growth of interest within both traditional financial institutions and newer fintech firms for the custody and management of cryptocurrency assets. United States regulators have generally taken a non-interventionist, laissez faire approach; likely to avoid the perception of stifling a nascent industry and preserve the ability to compete with less restrictive international regulatory regimes. However, until the SEC releases more detailed rulings for qualified crypto custody agents, firms are still holding their breath.
