I am a former banker turned consultant, having started in the financial services industry at the young age of 15 as an apprentice here in Zurich. Coming from a refugee family has had a tremendous impact on the person I have become and my parents’ past, what they endured and went through, had a lot do with how I was brought up. Both of my parents had to start a new life, with almost nothing, in a country they didn’t know anything about. Such events can make a person very strong, and I am certain a lot of that strength was projected on me when I was growing up. I was always taught to focus on my education, to work hard in my job, have an open mind and be humble.

I have been at Capco for five years now. I started as an Associate and am now a Senior Consultant. Having started in the financial industry quite young has made me passionate about many aspects of banking. It gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to bring added value to people and projects, working alongside smart, inspiring and hard-working people who I can learn from, whether peers or clients.

One of those people who has definitely contributed to my growth and inspired, mentored and coached me through my years at Capco from day one was my first project manager. Not only was he the first person who introduced me to the world of consulting, but he also continued to be available for advice and guidance, even after he left the client account we were on and moved on to other projects in a different country. For that I am very grateful.

Another very important aspect of my job is the opportunity to learn something new every day. With my banking background, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree, I decided to give the consulting industry a go and to apply my experience from a different perspective within financial services. Learning something new in every assignment, meeting new people, and keeping abreast with the latest industry topics are parts of my day-to-day work. Capco, in particular Capco Switzerland, has quite a good mix in their client portfolio, which offers opportunities to dive into projects at big banks as well as regional banks and smaller private banks. It is a fast-paced, challenging, engaging, and rewarding industry.

Outside work, I love exploring the world and visiting countries I haven’t been to as much as possible. Living in Switzerland, winter sports are an absolute must. So, during the winter season I try to jump on my snowboard and hit the slopes as often as I can. During summer you can find me on a Swiss lake paddling on my SUP and catching some sunshine.

I have participated in several Capco community events and have especially enjoyed this year’s International Women’s Day panel. The Zurich office organized several virtual get-togethers and invited successful and influential women from the industry to share their stories with us. In an industry still dominated by men, it can be easy to forget that we are not alone. Hearing other women’s stories and experiences has definitely opened my eyes and provided a different point of view on the world we work and live in.
