“I was involved in strategic regulatory projects which gave me the opportunity to develop an end-to-end understanding of how banks operate.”
Joined Capco: 2015
Role: Senior Consultant
Skills: Capital Markets Business Analyst
I became interested in finance during my school days, when my Dad taught me about his own personal investments. I found it very exciting, and after initially working in the IT industry for five years, I did my Executive MBA at IIM Lucknow with a view to pursuing a career in finance/capital markets.
At Lucknow During college I was a member of the Finance and Investment Society, which provided a lot of insights into different instruments and investment strategies and was a great learning experience. Today I work in capital markets consulting, and I’ve really enjoyed the steep learning curve that’s been involved.
An alumnus from college referred me to Capco, citing the interesting work the firm does with global banks, so I applied for a Business Analyst position. What struck me immediately was how receptive the recruitment team was to my interests.
Upon joining, I had the opportunity to work on a complex transformation project even though I was very new to the world of capital markets change projects. I was involved in regulatory projects covering EMIR , MiFID II and Brexit, which gave me the opportunity to interact with many different departments within the client bank and develop an end-to-end understanding of how banks operate.
My managers have been very supportive throughout my time at Capco, including me in various client outreach and strategy initiatives.
One of my most interesting projects was my first, working for a Tier 1 investment bank that needed help with digitizing their trade confirmations, which were still in physical paper form. The project was very challenging as it involved changes in multiple upstream systems to support the implementation.
I was still finding my way within Capco, but my managers mentored me and were always ready to guide me through the day-to-day aspects of the implementation. Additionally, Capco’s in-house training programmes - notably the Domain trainings, Consulting 101 , Business Analysis 101 and Project Management 101 - helped me get up to speed and structure my projects. I gained a lot of confidence during that first project, which I’m pleased to say was completed seamlessly despite a fast timeframe, which was greatly appreciated by the client.
I love cricket, having and have represented my school and college in various tournaments. My childhood idol was Glen McGrath, the Aussie fast bowler who inspired me to value consistency, keep things simple and do the basics correctly. In my free time, I follow Indian stock markets and track economic factors impacting stock prices and fluctuations. I can recommend ‘The Intelligent Investor’ by Benjamin Graham – it’s my favourite book and, though first published in 1949, still offers very relevant insights into value investing.
