The Impact of Central Clearing of OTC Derivatives - Roundtable Discussion (Dutch language)

Centraal clearen van OTC derivaten. Gaat het impact hebben? Absoluut. De vraag is: hoeveel, voor wie en wanneer?

A recent roundtable discussion, hosted by Capco in November 2011 in Amsterdam, brought together the Dutch regulator (AFM), buy-side, sell-side and Central Counter Party (CCP) representatives, to debate the impending EMIR – European Market Infrastructure Regulation - currently a draft legislative proposal.

The discussion focused on EMIR’s timeline, advantages, drawbacks and other elements such as trade reporting requirements and impact on operational and IT costs.

Although the new regulation is still in development, most market participants agree that preparations must begin as soon as possible, to reach the EU member states’ compliance date of summer 2012. In particular, EMIR’s complex and far-reaching reporting requirements will require significant change and investment, to ensure that the new rules are not just an extra cost item, but an opportunity to implement improvement and tap new markets. The big question now is 'how?'
