Capco role and focus
Mark Record joined Capco from Barclays in late Summer 2010. The major focus of Mark’s role is to continue to grow the Capco’s presence in the Banking domain across the UK and Continental Europe. Mark also plays a key role in driving the successful execution of Capco’s ongoing growth agenda.

Industry expertise
Mark’s most recent role at Barclays was as Global Director for Architectures and Strategy Group responsible for defining and governing the global retail and commercial technology strategies and architectures. He played a key role in developing Barclays ‘new global retail strategy led by the CEO of the retail bank. In this role, Mark was also responsible for global sourcing strategies including influencing product and vendor selection.

Previous to that role, Mark was Global Lead for Infrastructure Services and Delivery. In a two year time frame, Mark was able to reduce the run and change budget by 25%, and reduced headcount by close to 33%, without compromising delivery quality. This was achieved through an aggressive technical optimization and captive outsourcing transformation program. During the program service levels improved significantly, achieving SLAs of 99.8% in all Tier 1 and 2 services.

From 2004 and 2006 Mark was the IT Director for Global Application Development and CIO of the Retail Bank. He was responsible for leading over 3,000 application development staff, both insourced and outsourced, to deliver business IT solutions to the UK businesses. This role included the leadership of the UK’s biggest outsourcing deal that realized significant business benefits. As part of this program, Mark set up a captive of some 1,000 staff, and outsourced the bank’s development organization to India.

Earlier in his career with Barclays, Mark held a number of business transformation roles in. Key achievements while in these roles included:

  • The delivery of Barclays retail contact centers
  • The launch of internet banking
  • The leadership of the branch transformation program

Under Mark’s leadership, the enterprise architecture team won the 2010 Forrester Global Enterprise Architecture Award for outstanding delivery of value through business and IT partnership.
